Here are pictures of Nicole on
Convocation Day at the University of Alberta. We took some pictures on campus which is beautiful at
this time of the year with crawling ivy on 100-year old buildings.
Convocation
Day was quite a momentous occasion. Nikko graduated with First Class
Honors (the highest honors one can get) with a Bachelor of Arts (Honors)
degree in Political Science. When she started out in the Honors Program,
she told me she was hoping to graduate "With Distinction", but she did
even better. The degree Nikko obtained provides specialization in
Political Science with study in greater depth than is provided in the
regular Bachelor of Arts program and demands a higher standard of
academic performance.
Convocation on campus is a very big
event for both the University and the Province of Alberta. On stage
Nikko shook hands with her Faculty Dean, the Lieutenant Governor of
the Province of Alberta, the Chairman of the Board and the President
of the University.
This graduating class was special,
too--they are the 100th graduating class of the University of
Alberta which celebrates its centenary next year.
Nikko was hoping to either go into Law or
pursue a Masters in Political Science. She was accepted at the
University of Windsor Law School and just today at York University in
Toronto for a Masters in Political Science which has offered to provide
her with a $10,000 funding.
She is
faced with many dilemmas--she will now be on her own financially and the
$10,000 I believe will not be enough to sustain her through the one-year
program given the high cost of living in Toronto; she does not want to
leave her boyfriend for one year (he has one more term at the UofA in
the Economics program) ...
She's
currently searching for a full-time job. She's still employed with the
company Bill works for but only on a part-time basis.
Will keep
you posted.
